While not every organization can use public service announcements as part of a larger awareness campaign, a well-prepared PSA can lead to a great increase in publicity. This web page contains links to five guides (in Adobe PDF format) which describe how nonprofit groups can place PSAs, attracting media attention to an important issue. The introduction covers important terminology and reminders, while the guide to placing PSAs describes in detail the steps needed, including: assessing the message to be presented; identifying the media outlets you wish to work with; compiling important facts and figures that your campaign will utilize; and preparing both the announcement and the pitch you'll use to show its importance to potential broadcasters. There are also examples and market studies which dissect successful PSA strategies, and a link to PSA templates, sample pitch letters, and other helpful resources.
