abstracts prepared by Hugh Fisher
A seven-chapter guide to crafting and customizing your own website. Dave's guide give plenty of details but stays accessible as he explains not only the nuts and bolts of site coding, but offers a look at the philosophy of design that good websites follow in order to succeed.
Kristula begins with the basics, explaining how HTML works and discussing the necessary considerations for site designers, such as "will my site display properly on different types of computers and browsers?" and "what resolution should I design for?" He discusses the best ways to use different colors and fonts, explains the differences in the main graphics file types and provides an extensive glossary and examples of the tags and techniques as they are discussed.
The guide is easy to navigate and offers advice geared to every level of design. For those who are new to HTML or need a refresher course in hand-coding, Kristula provides a link to a very readable beginners' guide which explains how to start writing good code with a minimum of hassle. He also provides an extensive page of links to other sites which provide guidance and examples
